A new bucket for the park/beach, a big shovel, a scratch art, a tiny notebook, some of the new Crayola 3D chalk (which really works) and a SKETCHBOOK. They were thrilled. I showed them the this presentation about SKETCHBOOKS. Yesterday, our first weekday of summer, I showed them this art lesson, and then they headed off to draw.
Here they are...4, 6, then 7. 4 drew her lines in pencil, then I traced them with sharpie before she colored.
6 had a harder time tracing his lines.
7 tries to be so neat in everything he does. He's the one I'll probably have to show how to "wreck this journal."
Our goal is to do something in the SKETCHBOOK every day. It could be something directed, or I could just ask them to do anything they want. I'll try different things, like collage from Lego/American Girl magazines...journaling about the day...and I may even try taking them somewhere to sketch what they see.

Bravo! That's neat. And from another kid who never learned to color outside the lines, don't push 7. Show him, and then let it be. Some of us just like boundaries. (I'd still eat from a compartmentalized school tray if I could.)
The sketchbook is a great idea. I'm trying to figure out how to keep my DD busy once I am at home full time. I'll have to steal this from you. Along with a million of your other ideas.
Finishing the February Sweater today and bought yarn to make one for Chiquita. How is yours coming along?
I'm another kid who never learned how to color outside the lines. lol Used to drive my art teacher crazy.
