On Wednesday, our homeschool group took the kids to the
Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace. It just happens to be 11 miles from my house. (If you have to...ignore the politics long enough to see what I found.) In the house that he grew up in, I saw a gorgeous mitered afghan! Flash photography is not allowed, and it was a bit dark, so I did the best I could with the photos. I would have liked a closer look, but there was a barrier keeping me from the knits. I wonder if it would have been worth getting kicked out just to touch the blanket?

It's fun to look at the miters and then see how they switched it up for the center. I love the way the black ties the whole thing together.

Really, this isn't a 'fun' fieldtrip for the kids. But, we were expecting to be able to get on the
helicopter. It had a flat tire, and so we couldn't get within 20' of it. I'll have to go back again to let my boys on the helicopter as promised.

I couldn't see your pictures. I'm guessing it's the blanket over the rocking chair?

What fun to see you hobby in history! But I feel for the boys. I would of wanted to see the helicopter, too.
The link wouldn't work.
I clicked on your link for the helicopter. The on the left under Museum Tour, I clicked Birthplace.
Ok...the helicopter link works for me. I don't know what else to try. I did search helicopter from the RNL&B homepage. Then I got the link for the grand opening of the Presidential Helicopter. It's HUGE! My boys were seriously bummed.
There were so many historical things I saw as a little kid. I don't know if I appreciated them then or not. But I sure have appreciated the experiences looking back now as an adult. So your kids will probably remember this trip later. Although they might remember it as "the trip when we didn't get to go on the helicopter." :)
I wonder who knitted the afghan? I was able to link to the helicopter, it is big! Next time the boys will enjoy.
That blanket is gorgeous!!
I love all historical field trips - no matter how unfun.
I just found out 2 days ago that the corner of my street is the site of the Fanny Farmer Homestead.
Who knew?????
Wow, that blanket is awesome!
How in the heck are you? It's been so long! I hope we can get together at least once this summer. I saw your husband at the pancake breakfast, but not you! Your projects are so cool, good work. Wish we had time to hang out! I thought the Nixon library was so neat when I went a few years ago.
