Now, M has requested a hat. He saw this hat on someone else last week, and today I found it on the internet...thank God for google. It's a NorthFaceBeanie. I found this one, and I think that it's doable. I have some Zoom yarn that would be nice. So, I looked in one of my Gram's old Stitch books, and found this...

So...I think I might need some help. How am I going to do the decreases at the top of the hat. After knitting the Koolhaas, and seeing Jared's genuis at work...I should totally email him. Ok, I just can't do that. But, it would be cool. I also found this... Scroll down and read The Rules. Maybe this will help me when I try to make the decreases work. I might just be crazy. M said..."Well, when you get the one color pattern down, then you can try the 2 color hat, because that's what I really want." If those hats are still available somewhere I'm sure it's worth the $25. Because, isn't that a brioche stitch at the ribbing, and then the same cable pattern but with a bobbin of color for every 3 stitches. I'm not sure I love him that much. Not that I don't love him...but why can't he like something simple. My brother wants the Sideways Shortrow Cap I've knit 2 of...that's easy. Anyways, is there anyone out there with crazy skills that would like to knit along with me...and we can work together to figure this out??? Ok...maybe that was to crazy to ask. I do have another question for sock knitters...but I'll save that for another post.

Yeah, I'm glad you finished the Koolhaas. Since my daughter took over mine, I was thinking of making another were worsted malabrigo and adding the extra round. I feel like the woman's wasn't quite big enough for my head. But now that you mentioned it, maybe it was the baby cashmerino.
Wow, your blog helped me!
(sorry I accidently deleted my comment).
I love that Koolhaas hat! I'll knit it one of these days. I hope you find someone with good advice for M's hat.
Hi! So I checked out the North Face hat - it looks like they copped out of keeping the cables on the top for decreases (weenies), so that's always an option... you'd have to do some serious decreasing at the end of the cabling to prevent a flare, and then decrease as normal for a hat.
Another way to do it is to hide the decreases in the part of the cable that's crossing to the back. The nicest I've seen this done is in the Magknits Rivendell hat by "Hannah B.". I've done some cable decreases this way, too. It'll take some fiddling, and you won't be able to do it while at the movies, but it might look incredibly cool. Hm. Maybe I'll have to think about this for my brother in law. He'd love an all over cabled hat...
And, you know, you could try to contact Jared Flood. Maybe he has a blog?
Anyway, enough rambling for me for now. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier! KT
Hmm. It looks like the NorthFace beanie starts with corrugated ribbing and then uses entrelac for the body of the cap. When you get to the top of the hat you'll have all those squares with live stitches on the diagonal that probably pull together quite nicely to decrease.
Ok, I'm now very interested. I'm going to go find an entrelac hat pattern or make on myself!
